Man arrested after report of person with knife, crossbow at Vaughan Mills Mall

A 25-year-old Markham man faces weapons, trafficking, impaired charges

York Regional Police have charged a man after he was seen walking around a mall parking lot with a knife and a crossbow in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, shortly before 7 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the parking lot of Vaughan Mills Mall for a report of a man waving a knife. When officers arrived they located the suspect inside of his vehicle that was in the lot in front of Bass Pro Shops. The man was taken into custody.

As the investigation continued it was discovered that the suspect had been involved in a fail-to-remain collision in a parking lot a short distance away. Officers also found a crossbow, knife, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

Charged: 

  • Wencheng Chen, 25, City of Markham

Charges: 

  • Possession of a Weapon  
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking 
  • Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance 
  • Impaired Operation  
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle  
  • Mischief  
  • Drive Motor Vehicle While Under Suspension
