Man, 21, woman, 23, killed in dump truck collision in Markham

A 21-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were killed in a collision with a dump truck in Markham Oct. 12, according to York Regional Police.

A dump truck with a trailer collided with an Acura with three occupants at about 2 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Markham Road and Elson Street.

The Acura driver, the 21-year-old man, and rear passenger, the 23-year-old woman, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The front passenger, a 52-year-old woman, remains in critical condition in hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The 46-year-old male driver of the dump truck remained at the scene with no injuries. 

Investigators with the major collision investigation unit are seeking witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision. Police would also like to speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles or has information on driving behaviours prior to the collision.
