Police have charged an Ajax driver with impaired, restricted firearms charges after a traffic stop in Markham.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and a loaded firearm seized following a traffic stop in Markham.

Officers received a report of an impaired driver travelling in a white Acura in the area of Copper Creek Drive and Ninth Line on Monday, Jan. 9 at about 11:55 p.m., according to York Regional Police.

Officers on patrol located the vehicle, police said, resulting in the driver's arrest. Officer found a loaded handgun in his coat, police said.

Praveen Rajenthiran, 27, of Ajax faces nine charges, including impaired over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, carry a concealed weapon, along with other firearm-related offences.
