Lake Simcoe RIDE blitz finds nearly a third of drivers consumed alcohol

More than 100 drivers of snowmobiles and ATVS were stopped by police in the two-day campaign

Nearly a third of the drivers of snowmobiles and ATVs stopped by York Regional Police during a two-day RIDE blitz at Lake Simcoe had been drinking alcohol.

More than 100 riders were stopped by officers with the marine unit and road safety unit as they came off the ice, police said Friday, March 6.

About 30 per cent of the drivers had consumed alcohol, they said.

"Any amount of alcohol can reduce your driving abilities and reaction time," police said on social media. "Don’t drink and drive."
