City of Barrie police continue to investigate the death of a man who was pulled from the frigid waters of Kempenfelt Bay in downtown Barrie early Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the call shortly after 2 a.m. on March 9 after the man was reported to be in the water near the government docks in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Bayfield Street.

The man was removed from the water and emergency crews began life-saving efforts before rushing him to local hospital, according to police. Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

According to city police, a post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

“There is nothing to suggest anything criminal at this point,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday on Monday.

No other information has been released about the man.

Police had the area contained throughout the day so the scene could be properly photographed in the morning under daylight conditions, as part of their investigation.

Anyone with video from the area of Lakeshore Drive and Bayfield Street prior to 2 a.m. on March 9 is asked to call police at 705-725-7025.
