Update, Aug. 26: The votes are in and the two new canine unit members have officially been named. York Regional Police announced that the male dog is named Kash and the female dog has been named Molly.
Two new canine officers are preparing to join the York Regional Police canine unit, but first they need names.
YRP announced on Twitter that there are two new police dogs, one male and one female, joining the team. However, the force said, "Before they go on paw-trol, this good boy and girl need names."
The male will be a partner to Sgt. Todd Woods, while the female will be partner to Const. Mandy Bambrough. The officers' children have offered some name suggestions for the new team members, but YRP is turning to a Twitter poll for help with the final decision.
For Woods's new partner, the options are Spike, Kash, Ripley or Mack.
Which name would you pick for this pupper?

For Bambrough's new partner, the options are Kit, Sigg and Molly, with the last one appearing to be a front-runner.
What do you think @YRP should name this new four-legged friend?

YRP's canine unit is made up of a number of teams, each with a human officer and their canine counterpart. The unit helps in many ways, including:
- tracking suspects who have fled on foot;
- searching for missing persons;
- searching for evidence;
- apprehending criminals;
- performing high-risk vehicle stops or arrests;
- detecting narcotics, firearms, explosives, and cadavers.
