'Ghost gun' seized after guests refuse to check out of Markham hotel

Three Toronto residents facing firearms charges following Sunday incident, York Regional Police say
Police seized this handgun Sunday at a hotel in Markham.

Three people are facing weapon charges after police were called to a Markham hotel Sunday.

York Regional Police were contacted at about 2:45 p.m. after three guests at a hotel at Warden Avenue and Denison Street refused to leave following checkout time, according to a news release.

When officers got to the room, they saw a firearm in a gift bag near the door. It didn’t have any visible branding or serial numbers, and police believe it is a “ghost gun” — a type of homemade weapon sometimes created with a 3D printer.

Tahjae Harmmony Browne, 24, Kezriah Michelle McFarlane, 21, and Ishmael Herrera, 21, all of Toronto, have been charged with possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and trespassing.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information can be provided anonymously at
