A former doctor who was found guilty of sexually assaulting patients at his clinic in King Township has been sentenced to nine years in jail.

Wameed Ateyah, 52, was found guilty of sexual exploitation and 15 counts of sexual assault in September. On Nov. 23, he was sentenced to nine years, less five days of pretrial custody, and was ordered to submit a DNA sample to the National DNA Data Bank, York Regional Police said in a news release.

Police began investigating in August 2020, when two women, 49 and 28, reported they had been sexually assaulted by Ateyah at the Schomberg Medical Centre on Highway 27 while attending for appointments between 2008 to 2017.

Police said “many more” victims came forward, leading to Ateyah’s arrest.
