East Gwillimbury teen charged with driving 171 km/h in 80 zone

FRENCH RIVER - On Aug. 14, 2022 at 3:34 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle travelling 171 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on Highway 64, French River.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old person from the East Gwillimbury was charged with, race a motor vehicle - excessive speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused was issued a Provincial Summons and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 20, 2022 in Sudbury.

The driver was also issued a 30-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
