East Gwillimbury man charged after bullets found at neighbours' properties

Police responded to three neighbours' complaints between May 20 and 22

An East Gwillimbury man is facing weapon charges after neighbours reported finding bullet holes on their properties.

On May 20 at about 2 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a property in the area of Mount Albert Road and Highway 48, where a resident found what appeared to be a bullet hole in the driver’s-side door of his vehicle.

On May 22, another resident in the same neighbourhood reported a hole in her bedroom window. She noticed it on May 19 and thought it was caused by a golf ball, but she later found a bullet and called police.

The same day, police were called to another home in the area after a resident noticed a bullet hole in his eavestrough. After speaking with other residents in the neighbourhood, he checked his yard and found a bullet on his deck, next to where the eavestrough was damaged.

Police learned a suspect was shooting a long gun from a backyard, in the direction of the victims’ homes.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at a home in the area. Ten long guns, bulk ammunition, and a crossbow were seized. Police also found beer cans that appeared to have been used for target practice.

Serge Mario Proulx, 47, has been charged with careless discharge of a firearm (three counts), criminal negligence, and unsafe storage.
