An East Gwillimbury man is charged with criminal harassment and possession of a weapon for a dangerous person.

by York Regional Police said they have released a photograph of Vishal Sharma, 40, to appeal to the public for more information should there be any more victims.

Police received a call on Aug. 17 from a woman who reported she was being harassed by a man with a knife in Vaughan.

She had been walking in the area of Highway 7 West and Martin Grove Road with another woman when a male suspect unknown to them approached on foot, according to police.

He tried to engage them in conversation and offered them a ride home, which they declined. The suspect continued to follow them as they went to a bus shelter, police said. 

When one of the women got on a bus, the suspect approached the lone victim, displayed a knife, and tried to coerce her to come with him.

The victim then ran away and called police. 

Police said he was operating a red 2010 Ford F150 pickup truck. He’s now being held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing and police ask that any victims who have not yet come forward, or anyone with information or a video recording from the area at the time of the incident, contact investigators as soon as possible.
