Driver killed in collision with light pole in Vaughan

A 57-year-old man died on the scene of a two-vehicle collision in Vaughan Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 8:07 a.m., York Regional Police were called to a collision in the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Highway 27.

Following the collision involving a grey Audi SUV and black BMW sedan, the occupants of the BMW were trapped in the vehicle after being propelled into a light pole, which fall onto the vehicle, York Regional Police said in a news release.

Despite life-saving efforts of first responders on scene, the driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said. The 60-year-old male passenger was transported to a trauma centre with critical injuries.

The driver of the Audi was not seriously injured and remained on scene.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage or video surveillance of the area around the time of the collision, to come forward.
