A vehicle was flipped over and the driver ejected following a collision with a York Regional Police vehicle in King on the afternoon of Aug. 22.
The police vehicle was travelling south on Dufferin Street at about 3:20 p.m. with its emergency lights on and siren activated, responding to a call, said Const. Maniva Armstrong, media relations officer. A black Audi was also travelling south in front of the police vehicle.
Armstrong said she can't confirm how the collision occurred or how the police vehicle was involved, but the Audi ended up rolling over near a private driveway and the 23-year-old male driver was ejected.
The driver, who is from Vaughan, was transported to hospital, along with a 22-year-old female passenger. Both appeared to have serious injuries at the time, Armstrong said, but were later released with minor injuries. The male police officer involved was also taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Dufferin was closed between 16th Sideroad and 17th Sideroad, which is near Wellington Street, for several hours. It reopened shortly before 11 p.m.
The major collision investigation unit is still investigating this incident to determine the cause of the collision and whether any potential charges should be considered.
