It is believed the elderly man suffered a medical emergency, police say

An elderly male driver was declared deceased following a single-vehicle collision this afternoon in Newmarket.

The vehicle hit a curb and collided with the pedestrian island across from the condominium buildings on William Roe Blvd. at Yonge Street, before continuing eastbound until it went off the road at Terry Drive at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, according to York Regional Police Const. It is believed the collision occurred after the driver had a medical emergency, Armstrong said. He was transported to hospital, where he was declared deceased.
