Cyclist seriously injured after being struck by truck in Markham

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses following a serious collision involving a cyclist in the City of Markham.

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020 shortly before 1 p.m., York Regional Police were called to the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and the York-Durham Town Line for a report of a collision. When officers arrived they found that a transport truck had collided with a cyclist. The cyclist, a 54-year-old man, was suffering from injuries and was transported to hospital. The driver of the transport truck, a 45-year-old man from the City of Toronto, remained at the scene.

As officers were investigating, they were advised that the injuries to the cyclist were determined to be life-threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area are being asked to please come forward.
