Crime of the Week: Teen sought in robbery at Newmarket McDonald's

An 18-year-old male is the suspect in a robbery that took place at a McDonald’s in Newmarket in November.

On Saturday, Nov. 18 at about 7 p.m. at the McDonald’s at 17760 Yonge St., in the plaza at Dawson Manor Blvd., Crime Stoppers of York Region said the suspect approached a young victim who was sitting at a table with friends.

The suspect stole the victim’s sweater and punched him while attempting to steal the chains around his neck, Crime Stoppers said.

York Regional Police are investigating the incident and Crime Stoppers is seeking tipsters to help solve the case.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-2 white male with a thin build and red and brown curly hair. Crime Stoppers said he was wearing a black “moose knuckle” winter jacket with black fur on the hood and light acid-washed “Purple” brand jeans.

According to Crime Stoppers, witnesses say he may go by the nickname “C.J.” 

Crime Stoppers have released images of the suspect and a video of the incident and are asking anyone with information about the suspect or with any knowledge of the crime, but wish to remain anonymous, to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.  

If the information provided helps solve the case, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 and you will never have to identify yourself or testify in court, according to Crime Stoppers.
