Car hits bridge, catches fire in fatal Whitchurch-Stouffville crash

A driver has died after the car they were in went off the road in Whitchurch-Stouffville yesterday. 

York Regional Police said it was called to the area of Vandorf Side Road and Woodbine Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. Dec. 5 for reports of a single-vehicle collision. 

A Nissan Versa had gone off the road, collided with a bridge and then caught fire, police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Roads were closed in the area for investigation but re-opened shortly after 11 p.m. 

Investigators are now seeking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the crash or showing driving behaviour leading up to it.
