Bystanders help officer arrest man following collision in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged one man and are seeking witnesses following an incident of dangerous driving in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Sunday, May 10, 2020 shortly before 6 p.m., an officer on patrol spotted a beige Honda four-door sedan travelling south on Bathurst Street just south of Highway 407 driving erratically and at a high rate of speed. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but a short time later located it on Bathurst Street just south of Milner Gate after it had collided with several other vehicles. The driver exited the vehicle, was placed under arrest, but resisted. With the assistance of bystanders, the officer was able to get the suspect in custody in a parking lot in the area of Bathurst Street and Chabad Gate.

Charged:
    •    Marcus Johnson, 30, City of Vaughan

Charges:
    •    Dangerous driving
    •    Assault police with intent to resist arrest
    •    Fail to stop after a collision

Investigators are asking anyone who recorded this incident on a mobile phone or anyone with dashcam of the incident or any of the driving prior to the collision to please come forward.
