A "would-be buyer" fled in a 2023 BMW, leaving behind the shocked owner in the parking lot of the Starbucks in Bradford West Gwillimbury Thursday night.

The vehicle was for sale and the owner was showing it to a potential buyer who had agreed to meet at the parking lot on Holland Street East before 8 p.m. June 15, South Simcoe Police Service said in a news release.

“The would-be buyer arrived in a Mercedes-Benz Maybach and appeared to be alone,” police said. “As the ‘buyer’ was in the BMW driver’s seat with it running, he suddenly fled in the vehicle, jumping the curb, and driving eastbound on Holland Street, (and) then southbound on Marshview Drive.”

The victim had thought the Mercedes-Benz had no one else in it, until a driver fled the parking lot after the BMW.

The BMW was found abandoned near King Road and Highway 400 in York Region.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid-20s, standing about 5 feet 8 inches, wearing blue pants, a white dress shirt with the cuffs rolled up showing blue, and he had short, brushed-forward hair, an accent, and a bandage on his hand.

The suspect vehicle is a Mercedes-Benz Maybach with dark, limo-style tint on the windows.
