A Brampton man has been charged following a collision earlier this month in King Township that killed one person and injured four others.

On Feb. 18, shortly before 7 a.m., emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of King Road and 8th Concession, where a black, four-door Infiniti G37 with six people inside had struck a light pole.

First responders tried to save an 18-year-old female passenger from Brampton, but she was pronounced dead, police said in a York Regional Police news release. An 18-year-old male passenger from Brampton was taken to hospital with critical injuries. Two 19-year-old female passengers — one from Welland and one from St. Catharines — were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. An 18-year-old male passenger from Brampton was treated for minor injuries. The driver was not injured.

On Tuesday, Denrick Rose, 18, was charged with dangerous operation causing death, failure to comply with a release order, and three counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The occupants of the vehicle had attended a party in Caledon prior to the collision, York Regional Police said in a news release, adding the vehicle was believed to have been travelling at high speeds on Highway 400 and King Road before the crash, between 5 and 7 a.m. Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle or attended the party in Caledon to come forward.
