Body found in Richmond Hill identified as Whitchurch-Stouffville man

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are seeking witnesses and information after a body was located in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Dec. 31, 2021, at approximately 12:40 p.m., officers received a call regarding a body located in the area of Gormley Court in Richmond Hill. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Walid Saraj, 35, of Whitchurch-Stouffville. A post-mortem examination has been conducted and the cause of death has been ruled as gunshot wounds.

Investigators have been working to track Mr. Saraj’s movements between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31, 2021. They are now asking anyone who saw or spoke with the victim or has information on his whereabouts during that time frame to please contact police.

Investigators are releasing a photo of the victim, provided by his family, in hopes that anyone who recalls seeing him will come forward.

Investigators are also appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area who has not yet spoken to police, to please come forward. They are also asking anyone who has commercial or residential video surveillance, which may have captured something suspicious, to contact investigators.
