After videos were posted to social media, a 22-year-old man from Aurora is facing charges of dangerous driving and stunt driving.

York Regional Police received information last April about social media content that showed street racing occurring across York Region and the GTA, according to a news release.

Investigators found videos that showed a driver engaging in street races with other vehicles on Highways 407 and 404, as well as on other roadways.

The videos showed a man driving in close proximity to other vehicles, stopping in live lanes of traffic, and travelling at high rates of speed, police said.

The driver frequently features himself operating a blue 2022 BMW 5XG sedan, while boasting about evading police and bragging about getting away with it, according to police.

The suspect was seen operating a vehicle with no front plate and fake licence plates affixed to its rear with the plate characters “WILL RUN” and “SMURFY,” police said.

The offences occurred between April 1 and Aug. 12 and police identified a suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence on Aug. 16.

An Aurora man, who is not being identified by police, has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving and three counts of stunt driving under the provincial Highway Traffic Act. His driver’s licence was seized and suspended for 30 days and vehicle impounded for 14 days, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this, or any other serious traffic-related enforcement issue, is asked to contact the York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau’s Regional Enforcement Priorities (REP) team at 1-866-876-5423, ext.7703, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.

Police are reminding members of the community to call 911 if they see dangerous driving behaviour that could cause serious injury or loss of life. They ask to try and note the vehicle’s location, direction of travel, make, model, licence plate number and driver’s description.
