Arson suspect arrested again following more fires in Newmarket, Stouffville

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have arrested and charged a 29-year-old Newmarket man in connection with an additional series of arsons in the Town of Newmarket and the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Officers investigated a series of fires and property damage incidents in the area of Leslie Street and Davis Drive between April 10 and April 25, 2021. The suspect was identified, and was arrested and charged. He appeared in court on April 26, 2021, and was released on bail.

On May 11, 2021, fires were set at a high school on Lemar Road in Newmarket and graffiti was reported at a different high school on Huron Heights Drive.

On May 12, 2021, multiples fires were set in a forested area on Kennedy Road, north of Aurora Road, in Whitchurch-Stouffville. One of the fires was set close to a residence on Kennedy Road but fortunately no one was injured and it did not spread to the house.

The accused was arrested and is now facing additional charges.

Charged:
    •    Justin Davis, 29, of Newmarket

New charges:
    •    Arson with disregard for human life x3
    •    Mischief endangering life x3
    •    Mischief under $5,000
    •    Possession of an incendiary material x3
    •    Fail to comply with judicial release order

Original charges:
    •    Arson x8
    •    Mischief under $5,000 x9
    •    Mischief over $5,000 x2
    •    Possession of an incendiary device
