Arrest made in sexual assault of 23-year-old Vaughan woman

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section have charged a 48-year-old man following a sexual assault that occurred in the City of Vaughan.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 shortly after 9 p.m. when a 23-year-old female was walking on a pathway on the east side of Islington Avenue south of Napa Valley Avenue. However, investigation has clarified the victim attended a residence of a person she knew and that’s where the sexual assault occurred. The victim suffered non-life-threatening physical injuries.

Investigators identified the suspect and on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 9 p.m., he was arrested at his residence in the City of Vaughan. Investigators believe that this sexual assault was targeted and that there is no risk to community safety.

The accused’s name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.

    •    Assault causing bodily harm

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.

    •    The person who assaulted you is not present
    •    There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred.
    •    You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not have access
