Armed suspect approaches man in garage, carjacks his Mercedes in Markham

The man demanded the keys, then fled the scene in the ML350, while a second suspect followed in a dark-coloured SUV, police say

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking two suspects following a violent carjacking in the City of Markham.

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 7:35 p.m., officers were called to the area of Douglas Haig Drive, near James Edward Drive. They learned the victim had been sitting inside his 2012 silver Mercedes ML350 in his garage, when a male suspect approached him, pointed a gun and threatened him, while demanding the keys for his vehicle.

The suspect took the keys, stole the vehicle and fled the scene, while a second suspect followed in a dark-coloured SUV.

The first suspect is described as male, Black, 5’7”. There is no description for the second suspect.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.
