Armed robbers hit Richmond Hill, Markham gas stations

The incidents were 20 minutes apart; 2 masked suspects fled with cash, cigarettes, lottery tickets

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking assistance to identify two suspects following armed robberies at gas stations in Markham and Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at approximately 2:25 a.m., two male suspects wearing masks entered a gas station located in the area of 16th Avenue and Woodbine Avenue in the City of Markham. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and they demanded cash. The suspects obtained a quantity of cigarettes and cash and fled from the scene in a vehicle.

The second incident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. at a gas station located at Bayview Avenue and 16th Avenue in the City of Richmond Hill. The two suspects entered the store wearing masks and demanded cash and lottery tickets. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The suspects obtained a quantity of lottery tickets and cash and fled from the scene in a dark-coloured sedan.

Suspect 1 described as:
    •    Male, Black
    •    Approximately 25
    •    5’10”, thin build
    •    Wearing a black hooded sweatshirt inside out, grey jogging pants, grey gloves, a black backpack and a black balaclava

Suspect 2 described as:
    •    Male, Black
    •    Approximately 25
    •    5’2”, thin build
    •    Brown eyes, thin eyebrows
    •    Wearing blue jeans, a brown zip-up hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, black running shoes, eye glasses and a black bandanna covering part of his face
    •    Armed with a handgun

Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment. Quality images help to identify suspects, can aid in arrests and have a tremendous impact during court proceedings.
