Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking two suspects following a carjacking in the City of Vaughan.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, around 9:55 p.m., officers were called to the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Thomas Cook Drive for a report of a carjacking.

The victim had been driving in a 2017 white Mercedes E300 on Thomas Cook Drive when he stopped to make a turn onto Major Mackenzie Drive. A dark-coloured SUV pulled up beside the victim. A male suspect exited the passenger side of the suspect vehicle and appeared to have been holding a gun near his waist while demanding that the victim get out of his car. The victim complied.

The suspect stole the vehicle and fled the area, while the second suspect followed in the SUV.

Both suspects are described as: Male, Black.

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident.

As a result of the increase in carjacking incidents, York Regional Police is leading a GTA-wide task force that also includes members of the Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, the Durham Regional Police Service, with support from the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario. This task force will further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts across the GTA to combat this issue.
