74-year-old woman attacked at bus stop in Markham (VIDEO)

York Regional Police have released a video that shows a male suspect running at the victim, pulling her hair and causing her to fall, before fleeing

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking the assistance of the public after a serious assault occurred in the City of Markham.

On Friday, July 8, 2022, at approximately 2:15 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a bus stop in the area of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East for a report of an assault. The 74-year-old female victim had been walking from a nearby mall to the bus stop when a male suspect came out of a pathway on the west side of Steeles Avenue. The suspect ran at the victim and pulled her hair, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled the scene.

When police arrived, the victim had been transported to a nearby hospital and was treated for minor physical injuries.

Investigators are releasing video of a person of interest and are appealing for assistance to identify him. 

Anyone who witnessed any portion of this incident, including anyone who may have been in the area on Friday, July 8, at approximately 2:15 p.m., or who may have video surveillance or dashcam footage from the area at the time, is asked to please come forward.
