4 men charged after Vaughan family assaulted, tied up with zip ties

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged four people following a home invasion robbery in the City of Vaughan.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at approximately 5:30 a.m., police were called to a residence on Rumsey Road in the area of Bathurst Street and Major Mackenzie Drive for a report of a home invasion robbery. When officers arrived, they learned that several suspects broke into the home. The victims, a family of four, were assaulted and tied up with zip ties. The suspects stole a quantity of cash and a cellphone, then fled in a vehicle. One victim suffered minor injuries.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle and four suspects were arrested and charged.

Charged:
    •    Zhen Hao Zhen, 28, of the City of Toronto

Charges include:
    •    Robbery with a firearm
    •    Forcible confinement
    •    Disguise with intent
    •    Aggravated assault
    •    Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

Charged:
    •    Bin Chen, 52, of the City of Toronto

Charges include:
    •    Robbery with a firearm
    •    Forcible confinement
    •    Disguise with intent
    •    Aggravated assault
    •    Fail to comply with undertaking x3

Charged:
    •    Kwabena Otieku Asare, 34, of the City of Mississauga

Charges include:
    ▪    Robbery with a firearm
    ▪    Forcible confinement
    ▪    Disguise with intent
    ▪    Aggravated assault

Charged:
    •    Elijah Bishop, 21, of no fixed address

Charges include:
    •    Robbery with a firearm
    •    Forcible confinement
    •    Disguise with intent
    •    Aggravated assault
    •    Obstruct justice
