3 motorcycle collisions on same day prompt caution from police

Three serious collisions involving motorcyclists Wednesday have prompted police to urge drivers to be aware on the roads.

At 11:47 a.m., emergency crews responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a dump truck at Bloomington Road and York-Durham Line in Whitchurch-Stouffville. The 28-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, York Regional Police said in a news release.

At 3:40 p.m., a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle occurred at the intersection of Rutherford Road and Dufferin Street in Vaughan. The 45-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition was later changed to serious but non-life threatening, police said.

At 5:21 p.m., police responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle at Bayview Avenue and Highway 7 East in Richmond Hill. The 48-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“York Regional Police is reminding everyone to be aware of your surroundings and other road users when travelling on our roads,” police stated. “Motorcyclists are reminded to always wear appropriate protective gear, including a DOT-approved helmet, ride defensively assuming that other drivers may not see you, obey speed limits and avoid aggressive riding.”
