3 men arrested, drugs, guns, $10K seized following Markham traffic stop

The investigation led York Regional Police officers to execute three search warrants at various locations

York Regional Police has seized two firearms, a large quantity of drugs, and cash after a traffic stop in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, shortly before 3 p.m., an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle with three male occupants for a Cannabis Act investigation in the area of Enterprise Boulevard and Warden Avenue. When speaking with the driver, the officer observed evidence of drugs in the vehicle. The three men were placed under arrest and during a search, one male suspect attempted to flee custody, however, was unsuccessful. A quantity of drugs and a two firearms were seized.

The investigation lead officers to execute three search warrants at various locations. Officers located 9mm ammunition, 180 grams of cocaine, 171 grams of fentanyl, 3.5 pounds of cannabis, 95 Alprazolam tablets, seven oxycodone tablets, five MDMA tablets, two grams of Methamphetamine, and approximately $10,000 in cash.

  • Possession of a firearm knowing Its possession is unauthorized 
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition 
  • Carrying a concealed weapon 
  • Possession of a weapon 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle 
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x3 
  • Breach of probation 
  • Possession of Cocaine for the purpose of trafficking x3 
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Possession of Alprazolam for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Possession for the purpose of distribution – Cannabis 
  • Careless Storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or a ammunition 
  • Possession of MDMA for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Passenger- Fail to properly wear seat belt

Charged: 

  • Ahmad Yasin, 22, of Waterloo

Charges Include:

  • Possession of a firearm Without a licence 
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized 
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm 
  • Possession of a weapon 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle 
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 x2
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition 
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order 
  • Possession for the purpose - Cocaine 
  • Possession for the purpose – Crystal Meth
  • Possession for the purpose - Ecstasy

Charged: 

  • 18-year-old from Kitchener

  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a weapon 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle 
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 x2 
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition 
  • Possession for the purpose - Cocaine 
  • Possession for the purpose – Crystal Meth 
  • Possession for the purpose - Ecstasy

The investigation is ongoing.
