20-year-old man charged in connection with sexual assaults in Vaughan

Thanks to assistance from the media and the community, investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section have charged a 20-year-old man in connection with two sexual assaults that occurred in the City of Toronto and the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at approximately 7:40 p.m., York Regional Police responded to the TTC subway station located at 3150 Highway 7 in Vaughan, for a report of a sexual assault. Officers learned that a female victim was on the subway coming north from Toronto when a male suspect walked by her and put his hand on her leg. He then sat across from her and began masturbating. Upon arriving at the station in Vaughan, the suspect approached a second female victim and pressed himself against her from behind.

The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

On Nov. 24, 2021, the suspect was identified as a result of the media release. He has been arrested and is now facing charges. We would like to thank the media and the public for sharing the information and photos which ultimately led to the successful arrest.

  • Lamar Grey, 20, of no fixed address

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.

If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if: 

  • You are not in danger 
  • The person who assaulted you is not present 
  • There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred 
  • You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not have access
