Two Newmarket men are charged with multiple offences following a restaurant break-in in Innisfil early Saturday.
South Simcoe Police received a report of the sound of glass breaking near Johnny Burger, followed by a description of a suspect vehicle departing the scene May 27 shortly after 3:30 a.m., according to police.
Officers located the suspect vehicle on Innisfil Beach Road and after conducting a traffic stop, two men were arrested. Police said break-and-enter tools were found in the vehicle.
James Hastings, 33, and Tyler Smith, 37, are each charged with four offences: break, enter - to business; possession of break-in instrument; possession of property obtained by crime; and mischief.
"The successful outcome of this call is great example of alert citizens contributing to community safety by assisting police," police said in a news release. "The South Simcoe Police encourage residents and visitors to call 911 if you see or hear a crime in progress and do not attempt to engage the suspects for your own personal safety. If you can, from a place of safety relay information that can assist responding officers to the area of concern and the identifying information related to the suspects description and any vehicles in use."
