Investigators with the York Regional Police 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau – Property Crime
Unit have charged a 35-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man in connection with multiple break-and-enters that occurred in York Region and the City of Toronto.

From October 2022 to Feb. 6, 2023, police responded to a number of commercial break-and-enters at
convenience and jewelry stores.

Investigators from both 2 and 5 Districts worked together to identify two suspects and on Feb. 7, 2023, Charles Duguay and Michelle Wright, both of no fixed address, were arrested. Two stolen vehicles, stolen property and
illegal drugs (were seized).

Duguay and Wright have been charged with a combined 50 criminal offences, including break-and-enter, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of cocaine. The investigation is ongoing and officers are seeking additional victims who have not yet come forward who may be able to identify some of the recovered property. Photographs of the recovered items can be found here.

York Regional Police encourage business owners to take proactive steps to keep their businesses safe. Break-and-enters are often crimes of opportunity, so the less appealing and the more difficult you make it for thieves to break in, the more likely they are to move along.
