UPDATE: Missing 13-year-old from Vaughan found safe

May 4 update: 
The missing 13-year-old from Vaughan was found safe following a tip from the public, York Regional Police said at about noon on May 3.

Original May 3 release:
Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking public assistance in locating a missing 13-year-old girl from the City of Vaughan.

She was last spoken to by family members on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, around 4:20 p.m. She left her residence located in the area of Autumn Hill Boulevard and Thornhill Woods Drive on foot. Katina left all her personal belongings behind.

She has not returned home and her family and police have not been able to locate her. Investigators are concerned for her well-being and safety. Anyone with information or anyone who knows Katina are urged to contact police.

A command post has been set up in the area of 9000 Bathurst Street and police search and rescue have been engaged. Citizens are being asked to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation.

Police said an Amber Alert has not been issued as they are only used for specific types of child abductions and there is no evidence of abduction in this case.
