October 31st, 1925 - March 21st, 2022

Terry passed away at Southlake Residential Care Village on Monday, March 21, 2022, in his 97th year. Survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie Read, and will always be the ‘love of her life.’ Terry will be dearly missed by his only son Paul (Lynda); Grandchildren, Matthew (Erika Vilmanis) and Jessica Hunter (Martin); and Great Grandchildren, Parker Williams and Owen and Quinn Hunter; the many Read in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; dearest friends Jean Kennedy and Jay Kerr; and many good friends.

Terry’s life journey began on October 31, 1925, in Chester UK. Born to Alfred and Violet, he spent his early years travelling around the UK while Alfred worked for the Royal Agricultural Show. Sadly, Alfred passed away when he was just 11 years old.

Terry spent the war years working in a ‘deferred’ occupation that prohibited him from joining the service. As soon as the deferral ended, Terry enlisted in the Air Force and served for two years from 1946 to 1948, as a Drill Instructor, after which he worked at De Havilland, England. Terry moved to Canada in 1954 with wife, Dorothy and son, Paul. His career in the aircraft industry soared as he moved from De Havilland to Douglas Canada, where he became DC10 program manager. He ended his working years at Canada Post.

When Dorothy passed away from cancer, Terry married Connie. After his retirement, Terry stayed active and continued to pursue his favourite hobbies: home renovations, woodworking, electrical and plumbing. Terry and Connie travelled often, exploring many countries of the world, and especially enjoyed cruising.

Terry never lost his passion for red wine, good food or a well-timed quip; his catalogue of clever and wise sayings will be fondly remembered and recounted. A patient and gentle man, Terry never had an unkind word, chose to look at the world with enduring optimism and kept his sense of humour until the end.

A special thank you to the PSWs, nurses and social workers at Southlake Village who looked after him for the past ten months.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
