Penelope Ethel Taylor, 76, of Bradford, Ontario, passed away on March 20, 2023, from complications of COVID-19.

Penny was born in East York, Ontario March 15, 1947, to Ronald Taylor and Marion (Bongard) Taylor. Penny is preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters, Judith Timleck, Patricia Salmon (Brian), and two brothers, Ronald, and Kenneth. Penny is survived by her sisters Jane Sweatman (Gordon Sweatman), Susan Taylor (Jamie Barton), and brothers Christopher Taylor (Peggy), and John Taylor. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Penny attended Secord (Elementary) School and East York Collegiate Institute. She began a long and successful career at the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) in 1970, retiring in 1999. Penny was a huge NHL fan—first the Montreal Canadiens and latterly the Toronto Maple Leafs. She had favorite players such as Bobby Rousseau, Jacques Laperriere, Doug Gilmour, and Wendel Clark. She enjoyed family time and was very close to her mom. She also loved her music, especially the Bee Gees.

She enjoyed traveling (England, Hawaii, New Orleans, Montreal, Vancouver) but has been unable to go on any trips in more recent years. One of her favorite places was the CNE. She loved knitting and referred to herself as the “happy hooker”.  She was also an expert at jigsaw puzzles, cribbage, sketching, word puzzles, and Bingo.

Penny was a kind and gentle soul who was burdened with many health problems since childhood. She courageously fought off one health challenge after another. She will be missed and remembered by the many lives she has touched. Her family is relieved that she no longer suffers and hopes that she is re-united with their mom and dad, sisters, and brothers.

Cremation will occur at Taylor Funeral Home in Newmarket, ON. A service and celebration of life will follow later in the spring at St. John’s Norway cemetery, 256 Kingston Rd, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Epilepsy Canada https://www.epilepsy.ca or other epilepsy charities.
