Passed away at her residence in Newmarket on Saturday, December 9 with family at her side, age 97.

Eileen Talbot was a hospital nurse and a long-time resident of Port Hope, along with her beloved husband Mel Talbot, who was the proprietor of Randall’s gift and stationery store. Loving father of Sheryl (John Middlemiss), Margaret (Mark Weidmark) and James (Jamie) (Jane Lakatos). Also survived by grandchildren Tara Middlemiss (Feanno Agard), Kristine Middlemiss (Matthew Baird), Kathleen and Laura Weidmark, Samantha, Brittany and James Talbot, Pascal Blais (Sarah St. Pierre), Chloe Blais (Ivan Madeira) and great-grandchildren William, Charles, Agnes, Christopher, Vivienne and Cedric. Sister of the late Lela Leatherdale, Leonard Beer and Doreen Abel, step-sister to Gloria Hemming and Leroy Beer.

Eileen was born on October 8, 1926 to her parents Roy and Sarah Beer on their pioneer homestead near Radville, Saskatchewan. The Beer family returned to Ontario in 1935 because of the Depression and drought. Eileen graduated as a registered nurse from St. Thomas Memorial Hospital in 1948 and the following year married James Melville Talbot, who she had met at a dance. Eileen worked as a nurse in Sarnia, Belleville and Port Hope, often taking the night shift so she could be home for her children during the day.

When she retired she made many quilts for babies, birthdays and anniversaries. Long cross-country road trips with Mel and the family were recorded in detailed scrap books, a hobby she continued doing until recently. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Amica. A celebration of life will be held for Eileen in Spring 2024. If desired, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to one of Eileen’s favoured charities, Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth.
