It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Anna Vivian Szollosy (nee Bertolin) on Wednesday, March 8 in Newmarket, ON. Born on January 3, 1942, in Sutton, ON, Mom was predeceased by her parents, Guerino (James) and Maria Bertolin, and by her sister Ida Bertolin. Devoted and loving mother to Michael (Sarah) and Robert (Annie) and Momma Viv to Cindy (Anthony) Ashworth. Proud and loving Nonna to Will, Jonah and Eva, and James and John.

Mom lived an exceptional, vibrant life, both professionally and personally. Vivian began her teaching career at Jersey Public School in 1960, and she touched so many lives over her many years teaching St. Thomas Aquinas in Keswick and St. Paul CES in Newmarket before she retired in 1997

Travel was her passion, with her friends Katherine and Carol and so many others, she travelled across North America, thinking nothing of jumping into a car for a days-long road trip, explored the world more widely on cruises and travelled Europe, visiting England regularly to visit her grandkids, and her parents’ birthplaces in Italy.

We cannot help but smile and be so grateful for the time we had together and the consistent good health that Mom enjoyed over her lifetime. But it is still heart breaking for us to experience such an unexpected and deeply felt loss. We will love and miss her forever.

Visitation will be held at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Dr., Newmarket, on Monday, March 21, 2022, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 17955 Leslie St. Newmarket on Tuesday March 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  A reception will follow afterward.  Location details will be added once confirmed.

Memorial donations can be made to the Covenant House Toronto or the Diabetes Association Canada.

At the family’s request, please be fully vaccinated and masked if attending either the Visitation or the funeral mass.
