Mavis Dorothy Stuart, late of Unionville, Ontario passed away on March 10, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born on August 23, 1927, to George and Annie (Buchan) Davidson in Cape Town, South Africa.

At the age of four, Mavis's father passed away, necessitating her and her older sisters to be placed in the Marsh Homes for care and schooling while their mother worked to support the family. Mavis completed her high school at the Huguenot Seminary and went on to business school. She started her career working for the Cape Times.

Mavis attended Cape Town Baptist Church and was involved in the young people's fellowship and choir. It was there she met her husband, Victor Stuart. Mavis attended Cape Town Bible Institute and while there, knew God was calling her to missionary service. Mavis Davidson and Victor Stuart left in June 1957 for Nigeria to serve with SIM. They were married in Jos, Nigeria on January 3, 1958. Together they worked in the Christian literature ministry, Youth for Christ, women, and children's ministries, and latterly in administrative roles both in Jos and Toronto. Mavis and Vic arrived in Canada November 2,1961 as landed immigrants and were granted Canadian citizenship in 1966. Mavis worked alongside Vic in Jos until September 1976 when they transitioned to administrative roles for SIM Canada until 1998. Mavis and Vic were actively involved at Calvary Associated Gospel Church in Toronto, during this time. They retired to a home in Newmarket, Ontario in 1998 and became involved at Newmarket Grace Church. Needing extra care and support, Mavis moved to Bethany Lodge in Unionville, Ontario in October 2018. She happily resided there, with the care of so many kind staff, until God called her home.

Mavis is survived by her daughter Vicki (Bruce) Cole of Richardson, Texas; son David (Dene) Stuart of Aurora, Ontario; granddaughters Amy (Santy) Villegas of Newmarket, Ontario, Carly Stuart of Lefroy, Ontario; grandson Trevor Cole of Plano, Texas; great-grandson Camilo Villegas and great-granddaughter Catalina Villegas of Newmarket, Ontario.

Mavis is preceded in death by her husband Victor Stuart and her grandson Tyler Cole.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Dr, Newmarket, ON L3Y 2P3
