May 26th, 1932 - February 1st, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Peter Schouten on February 1, 2024 at the age of 91. Peter was a devoted husband of Nelly Schouten (predeceased), loving father of Patricia, Peter and Brian. He was a beloved grandfather to Jody, Olivia, Owen & Lucas and great grandfather to Jackson, Sloane & Hudson.
Peter was born in Holland in 1932 and moved to Canada in 1951. He met his future wife, Nellie in Toronto in 1959 and they married 6 months later. They raised their 3 children in Newmarket, as Peter worked as a truck driver for 35 years supporting the family, while Nellie was homemaker. They travelled as a family to Florida and Holland several times for vacations. Peter enjoyed cross country skiing, skating, tobogganing, and going to the beach with his family.
Later in life, Nellie developed dementia and Peter took care of her at home until she passed in January 2018. They were married for 59 years.
The family would like to thank all the Caregivers, Nurses, PSWs and staff at The Village of Taunton Mills in Whitby, where Peter lived since March of 2023. Visitation and private ceremony will be held at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home in Newmarket at Noon on February 5, 2024.
