May 30th, 1944 - April 2nd, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing on April 2nd, 2024, in Newmarket, Ontario of a kind, brave, and unimaginably caring, mother, partner, stepmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, Julia Butler Plewes.

Born in Grenoside England May 30th, 1944, to parents Herbert and Sarah Butler. Julia is survived by her beloved daughter Suzanne Tranmer (Earl) of Zephyr, Ontario, her partner Harry Budnick of Hanmer, Ontario, her sister Olive Green of Lethbridge, Alberta as well as numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Sarah Butler of Grenoside, England and sister; Mabel Shaw (Eric) of Thorpe in Balne, Doncaster, England.
Julia was the youngest of 3 girls and lost her parents at the young age of 13. She soon immigrated to Canada to live with her sister Olive, her brother-in-law Peter and their 3 children; Andrew, Sandra and Dianne.

Julia taught elementary school children for many years, the majority being at H.W. Knight P.S. (Which later became McCaskill Mills P.S.) in Cannington, Ontario. She loved all her students and fellow teachers. Julia was a memorable teacher who did many things to engage all at the school such as; bringing her parrot Joe in for regular visits, each year hatching baby chickens in her classroom, making many crafts for both students and fellow teachers. She was one of the “greats” and no doubt made an impact on all those she taught and worked alongside.

Julia was a kind soul who had many passions. These included all things in nature, knitting, a wide range of crafts, photography, travel and teaching.

Julia was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was warm and welcoming to all. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was so kind and passionate. She made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed.

Julia’s family and close friends will celebrate her life privately soon. In lieu of flowers, her family welcomes you to contribute in her name to The Margret Bahan Hospice in Newmarket, Ontario., The Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake or The Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre of Health Sciences North, should you be so inclined. The incredible staff at these facilities consistently went above and beyond to make both her cancer journey and her final days comfortable and peaceful.

Through memories, the ones we love live in our hearts forever. You will be missed by all who knew and loved you.
