20-Oct-1945 - 13-Sep-2023

Senyo Chihiro Nonoyama, 77 years old, passed away peacefully September 13, 2023, at Southlake Regional Health Centre with his wife Yoshiko and two daughters Mika Laura, and Eileen by his side. This after a brief but formidable fight with cancer. At the age of 24 years Senyo and Yoshiko immigrated from Kariya, Japan with very few possessions and the dream of being the first of his family to start the Nonoyama line outside Japan. First staying with the kindness of the Sumioka family in Toronto, he eventually moved to Mississauga to raise his two daughters and ended his days in Newmarket.

Senyo had an introspective yet resolute personality, which served him well as a millwright in various companies including Tetra Pak and the last at Honda Canada. He learned his trade at the now Toronto Metropolitan University when it was only a technical college. More than anything Senyo LOVED golf, playing over 90 times a year at his peak. He also enjoyed learning the intricacies of financial investments and was an amateur expert of the market.

Senyo is survived by his wife Yoshiko; children Mika Laura (husband Tim Bishop) and Eileen; grandchildren Michiko and Lee; brother Mikihiro (wife Tsukiyo) and sister Noriko Sakai (husband Kiyo Sakai); Bishop family Lisa and Lionel Ulrich, Jane and Rick McAteer; and the Sumioka / Lashbrooks especially Tats, Nancy, Chris, Mayumi, and Kiyomi.

A visitation will be held on Monday September 18th, between 1 and 3pm at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket, 905-898-2100, followed by a Catholic mass (no communion) at 3pm in the chapel. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre at https://jccc.on.ca/join-support/donate.
