January 30th, 1935 - November 7th, 2022
With extreme sadness Laurdell Mary-Ann Neate passed away in Port Perry Ontario at the age of 87 in the early hours of November 7th, 2022. She is now reunited with her husband and best friend Robert Neate. (1932-2012)
Loving and proud mother of two sons, Stephen (Alison) and Darrell. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Fletcher, Emma, Berkeley and Noah Neate who were so fortunate to have spent time with her as she moved closer to them after her dementia increased, along with Justyne and Alyssa who also made Laurie a great-grandmother.
Laurie was a school teacher who graduated from Stratford Teaching College in 1955 and also graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. She taught for a number of years in Kitchener, Ontario before adopting Stephen and Darrell.
After years of living in Kitchener she moved to Saugeen Shores and spent many of her and Bob’s years on Grosvenor St, thanks to the generosity of Ruth White and family. Laurie and Bob were also so fortunate to have great friends in John, Marj Tite and family.
Laurie was a member of her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi-Iota for over 50 years’, a choir member and part of Southampton United Church for over 30 years along with being a member of Olivet United Church in Kitchener, Ontario. She and Bob were also part of the Canadian Food Grains team for many years.
Laurie and Bob also gave back to their community by being lay ministers who led services at the Southampton Care Center and volunteered in a number of organizations.
In her later years after Bob passed away, she did her best to fight and persevered with dementia, Covid 19 near death and a fatal leg break this past March. However, she is now at peace.
Laurie led her life with a steadfast commitment to her religious beliefs, husband and children. She is no doubt in heaven as so deserved.

A tentative date of April 15th for an outdoor celebration of life to be held at Southampton cemetery for family and friends.

Laurie’s favourite biblical passage was Numbers 6: 24-26 and she was firm in her belief until the end.
24 “‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
Mom, you are now at peace.
