July 19th, 1927 - December 27th, 2023
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Diana Lois McVeity on December 27 2023 at 96 years of age. Diana was born on July 19th 1927 in the city of Toronto. Diana is predeceased by her husband Donald T McVeity who passed away in 1993. Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Dina Ann Edmonds and her siblings Lloyd, Ray, Ted, Muriel, Harry and Betty and her great grandson Wesley.
She is survived by her sons Donald (Natalie) and Rick (Darlene) McVeity, Proud grandmother to ten grandchildren, Angela (Grant), Joshua (Fred), Charity (Jesse), Daniel (Amy), Caleb (Meg), Chelsea (Shand), Seth (Lindsay), Shawna (Adam), Braedon (Brittany), Logan (Jane), 21 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Diana was a long-time resident of the town of Newmarket. She was a very active and long serving member of the Christian Baptist Church and, later in life, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved Newmarket and fondly remembers the relationships she made with people in this community. The History of Newmarket was something of great interest to her causing her to join the Newmarket Historical Society. After moving to Alberta she continued her association with the Historical Society.
Faith was the foundation upon which she built her life and the guiding principle for raising her sons. Her faith and a positive attitude would carry her through the many challenges that she would be faced with in life. She moved to Calgary, Alberta in an effort to be in closer proximity to the majority of her immediate family. She valued her independence and she was able maintain her independence up until the age of 94.
Diana was an avid reader, loved classic movies from the 1940’s, along with the detective shows that came along in the seventies. She loved her family and would always insist on documenting any family function with photographs. She cherished these photographs and would review them regularly. She liked to laugh and could even find humour in events that she was involved in that had gone wrong. She was a firm believer that a person’s actions were more revealing of a person’s character than their words. When she made a commitment she honoured it. She was a person who would always try to find the positive side of the many challenges she was faced with.
The family of Diana would like to express their thanks to the staff of Age-Care Midnapore, Calgary, Alberta for their care over the final few years of her life.
There will be a private family service in her honour. As per her request her body will be returned to Newmarket, a place that held many good and fond memories for her.
