Died peacefully surrounded by her loving children at AMICA Newmarket at 94 years of age, on Saturday December 30, 2023.
Mary was the youngest of six children born to the late Eugène Bonnette and the late Jennie McGurgan in Cowansville, Quebec. She is sister to the late Adeline, Paul, Joseph, Louis and Eugénie. She was the wife of fifty years to the late Robert (“Bob”) Marchessault and Mother to six children: Robert (Teresa), the late Nicole (Pino), Claude (Denise), Janine (Philip), Kim (Suzanne) and Pierre. She is the proud grandmother of Oriana, Alessia, Luca, Stephanie, Claudia, Michael, Jessie, Gabrielle, Elise, and Lucie. And Great-Grandmother to Myles and Taylor. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Ontario and Quebec.
With her husband “Bob,” Mary was a world traveler and lived in many different countries as she raised their six children in Sweden, France, and the US. She spent decades in Montreal and in the Eastern Townships that gave her a deep appreciation of animals and nature which fed her creative writing practice. She was loved by all for her kindness, deep empathy, and sense of humor. Special thanks to the staff at AMICA as well as several of the personal care workers who supported the family.
A celebration of life will be held at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home in Newmarket next May 12th on Mother’s day, 2024. The internment will be in Crownsville in June.
