Her Life:
She started her life as a farmer’s daughter but soon entered nursing and found herself after World War II in occupied Germany. Being in the Army gave her a chance to see many countries in Europe especially Malta which held a special place for her. In 1956 Babs married William Allan Mahon (Bill) in Scotland. The young couple moved to Canada shortly after Bill finished medical school. With little besides their wits and education they began their Canadian life in London, Ontario.
In 1958, with the birth of their first child, Susan, Babs became a full-time housewife. Bill’s medical training then took them to the U.S. so Babs moved to Boston and expanded her family with two more children: Lesley and Cameron. Babs had her hands full but, as always, just got on with it. With little money and no other family support, things were not easy. Bill relocated for work again which resulted in Babs moving back to Canada in the early 1960’s, to Edmonton, Alberta. One more addition to the family, Lindsay, was born in Edmonton which gave Babs just a bit more work to help fill her already full days. One final move and the family settled in Toronto, Ontario.
Babs was a typical English woman: tough, dedicated and loyal. She was a mum: an underappreciated title as she successfully raised four children.
In the autumn years of her life Babs, enjoyed her retirement in Aurora, Ontario spoiling her grandchildren Maggie, Charly, Mandy, Nikki, Jilly, Ryan and her great grandchild Alex.
All shall miss Babs: Daughter, nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
