Janet Christine Lahde, 75, of Newmarket, passed away January 25, 2024, with her husband and two daughters by her side.

Janet is survived by her husband Yrjö Kalevi Valdemar Lähde and daughters Kristiina Jennifer Lahde (Adam) and Samantha Eeva-Liisa Lahde, as well as her mother Louisa Moores, and her three siblings, Margaret Spracklin, David Moores and Carol Corporon. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughter Amelia Ann Lahde Brown.

Janet was born to Louisa Moores and the late Douglas Moores, on December 11, 1948 in Luton, UK. In 1950 Janet, and her family moved from England, and settled in Toronto. She graduated from William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in 1968 and received her degree as a Lab Technologist in 1970.

Janet and Kalevi met at the age of 17, these “high school sweethearts” married in 1970, and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on January 24th, 2024, one day before Janet’s passing. Early in their marriage they traveled to Wales and Finland to visit family, then settled in Toronto. In 1987 Janet and Kalevi established the family home in Newmarket, with daughters Kristiina and Samantha.

Janet was a dedicated Lab Technologist for over 35 years, working both at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston and Southlake Regional Heath Centre in Newmarket. She enjoyed her work at the hospital, and developed a cherished close-knit group of friends there.

Janet was beautiful inside and out. She emanated a grace of kindness and caring. She was always a ‘listening ear’, to her beloved friends and family; providing a steady, quiet strength in any situation.

Janet also knew how to have fun. She especially loved traveling with family and friends. She enjoyed adventures to Wales, Finland and Key West with her husband; New York with her daughters; Cuba with her dear friend Marika Nagasawa, as well as countless visits to her sister Carol’s cottage.

Janet was deeply connected to her family. To her husband she was, and is, considered to be an, “angel”. She was a perfect mother, always available to talk, providing deep acceptance and love. Janet extended this love to her granddaughter Amelia, sharing many joy filled weekends and holidays together. As a wife, mother, nana, sister, daughter and friend, Janet leaves only memories of her acts of love and kindness.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 between 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket, Ontario L3Y 2P3.
