May 4th, 1939 - October 7th, 2023

It is with great sadness we share that our beloved father, Basil Holly, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 7, 2023. Basil is survived by his daughters, Kathleen and Alison, their husbands Gordon and Roy, and his grandchildren Callum, Kiera, Ryan and Holly. Basil was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Nora (Gavin); his brothers Greg and Bernie; his sister Theresa; and his parents, Kathleen and Thomas Holly. For over 4o years Basil worked as an electrician in Ottawa with Bolton Electric.

He was a devoted family man who always put his family first. He was a kind and patient man with a great sense of humour, often described as having mischievous glean in his bright blue eyes. He will be remembered as being a skilled handyman, and a dedicated friend. He had a love of travelling and gardening but his biggest passion was hockey. When he wasn’t spending time with family, he could be found cheering on The Sens. He was a dedicated Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, who provided service and charity to the Catholic community.

Over the years, Basil faced many health challenges but did so with grace and resilience. Many thanks to all who have cared for and supported Basil throughout the years. He truly was one of a kind and we will miss him dearly. We are eternally grateful for everything he has done for us. Our lives will not be the same without him.

Family and friends are invited to honour Basil at a Funeral Mass being held at St. Patrick's Church in Lansdowne, Ontario at noon on October 21, 2023. There will also be a gathering at 1:30pm at The Ivy Restaurant, 61 Shipman's Lane, Lansdowne.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jesuits of Canada or The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
