Douglas Norman Ferguson Jr., cherished husband, father, “Pappy”, uncle, brother, and friend passed away peacefully and surrounded by his beloved daughters and granddaughters in Barrie, Ontario on Monday, December 11th, 2023 at the age of 85.

Born on January 2,1938 in Toronto to parents Douglas Senior and Murdina Ferguson (nee Murray), Douglas grew up in Willowdale with sister Christina. He married Margaret Moran in 1960 and had two daughters, Janice and Jennifer.

Doug moved the family to Barrie in 1968. He was active in real estate for many years, and as a passionate golfer, was a member of the Barrie Country Club. He is also known for bringing Pizza Hut to Barrie in 1983 as the first Canadian franchise location.

Doug enjoyed travelling with Margaret. Many trips to Vegas and Nassau provided some great stories and classic photographs. Annual road trips to Florida provided precious childhood memories for the family. A passion for cruising ensued, and Doug and Margaret were fortunate to have travelled the globe. (Doug was particularly proud of his “Four-Star Mariner'' status with Holland America.)

He will be missed by dear friends made at South Bay Cove Marina, where they kept their boat Pizzazz for many years, and by fellow golfers, neighbours, business associates, and friends. He will be missed the most by his two daughters and four granddaughters who are blessed to have been loved so fiercely.

Doug is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret, father Douglas Norman Sr., mother Murdina, and sister Christina Noble. He is survived by his daughters Janice Leighton (David) and Jennifer Ferguson, granddaughters Emma Pugsley, Holly Pugsley, Olivia Pugsley, and Chloe Ferguson as well as his niece Vicki Millar (Jim Millar) and nephew Scott Taylor, sister-in-law Cecilia Dolgow and brother-in-law Edward Moran, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Special thanks to the kind staff of Amica Barrie. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to The Alzheimer Society of Canada in Doug’s honour. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 am in Newmarket at Taylor Funeral Home, followed by champagne and a toast to Doug at the residence of Janice and Dave Leighton. All are welcome to join.
